Pet-friendly summary

Rosebank Cottage is a big, well-equipped house in Mortehoe that works well for large family groups bringing the dogs along. Parties of ten or twelve with one or two dogs in tow are typical here, and the layout gives everyone room to spread out. It earns a 4.4/5 paw rating.

Dogs are expected rather than tolerated. The welcome hamper includes treats for them, the ground-floor tiles are easy to clean after a muddy walk, and up to two dogs are allowed. Some guests with two dogs call it the best dog-friendly cottage they have stayed in.

Its real strength is the location. The coast path runs close to the house in both directions, out to Bull Point lighthouse one way and Morte Point the other, and a footpath right beside the property leads onto open land for quick outings. Woolacombe beach is a 30 to 40 minute walk down, and a much harder one back up, so many groups drive. Not every nearby beach takes dogs, so groups with dogs tend to plan their beach days around the ones that do. The village has a shop, pubs and a bistro within a short stroll.

The garden divides opinion. Some guests describe it as fully enclosed and ideal, while others found it mostly paved with only a small square of artificial grass that their dogs did not take to, so it is better for sitting out and the hot tub than for a dog to run around in. Parking for three cars is very tight. Cleaning has also come up: more than one group arrived to dog hair on the sofa and floors from previous guests, and mattresses are on the firm side.

For a large family group who want a coastal base with dogs welcome, and who will use the coast path more than the garden, Rosebank Cottage is a strong option.
