Round House View, Brimington

Round House View is a refurbished bungalow in Brimington, on the edge of Chesterfield, and the single-storey layout is what makes it work with a dog. There are no stairs to manage, patio doors open straight from a bedroom into an enclosed garden, and the whole property is yours, so there is nothing to negotiate with other guests. Dog owners consistently name the garden as the reason they booked, and it holds more than one dog comfortably.

The house has been done to a decent standard throughout, clean and warm and modern with a well-stocked kitchen, and the host is quick to respond when something needs attention. A welcome pack is left for arrivals. Guests with dogs mention the practical things rather than gimmicks: a secure garden, level access, and an owner who is easy to reach.

Walking is straightforward. The bungalow sits in a built-up village with shops and pubs on the doorstep, and countryside paths start within a short walk, so a dog can get a proper outing without a drive first. Barrow Hill Roundhouse is close by, and Chesterfield town centre is a few minutes away by car.

Comfort is the one recurring gripe. The mattresses have been called cheap and uncomfortable, and the walls are thin, so a dog that reacts to noise from next door may not settle as easily as it would somewhere detached. The path from the road up to the gate is also steep, which is worth a thought with an elderly dog and a car full of kit. No pet fee or dog limit is published, so agree numbers with the owner before booking. With a 4.5/5 paw rating, Round House View suits families and couples who want a level, garden-backed base for north Derbyshire with a dog.
