Rowan Lodge is a self-catering lodge at Limefitt Park in Troutbeck, a few minutes' drive north of Windermere and just inside Lake District National Park. Limefitt Park itself is a long-established lodge park that's structurally set up for dogs: there's an on-site dog walking field, and the Haybarn pub on the park welcomes dogs for evening meals so an owner travelling with a dog can have a pub dinner without a car trip.

The dog-side of the property does the right basics. One well-behaved dog is welcome per booking - so this is a one-dog property rather than a multi-dog one - and the whole-lodge format means no shared corridors and no need to negotiate with other guests. The location off the main A592 puts you within a short drive of Ambleside, Bowness and the head of Windermere lake, plus the Kentmere Valley walks for working dogs that need real mileage.

The honest caveat is the condition of the lodge interior. Guest feedback has consistently mentioned the unit being dated and arriving in need of further cleaning - one reviewer described needing to clean the lodge before unpacking, and another mentioned dog hairs from previous stays in places that should have been deep-cleaned (including the kitchen grill). This is not a stand-out hygiene complaint about previous dogs being allowed in - it's a complaint about cleaning between guests. The kitchen and bathroom were both flagged as needing modernisation. For a self-catering rental at Limefitt's price point, the expectation is a deep clean before each guest.

Best suited to dog owners booking specifically for the Limefitt Park location and the on-site dog walking field, willing to bring some cleaning kit and inspect the lodge thoroughly on arrival. If you want a 'walk in and relax' self-catering experience with reliable hygiene standards, a more recently refurbished lodge elsewhere on Limefitt or in the Windermere area would be the safer pick.
