Pet-friendly summary
Sea Cliff Cottage is a cosy, well-loved base for a Cornish coast holiday with a dog. It sits above Pentewan, a small village a couple of miles along the coast path from Mevagissey, and dog owners who stay here tend to come away happy, with a 4.4/5 paw rating to show for it. Guests describe a thoughtfully kitted-out house with a log burner, a cinema room and a generous welcome hamper, and several mention dog bowls being left out ready for arrival.
The housekeeper gets warm praise from almost everyone, both for local tips before the stay and for sorting out problems quickly once there. For walks, the coast path runs right past the house and the Pentewan Valley Trail along the river is about five minutes away, which makes the cottage especially good out of season. The village pub welcomes dogs, and there is a riverside walk to a hotel that serves afternoon tea to dog owners too.
There are some honest caveats. Pentewan's own beach does not allow dogs from March to November, and it is enforced, so summer visitors will be driving to nearby dog-friendly beaches. One guest was put off coming back with a dog for exactly this reason. The garden is a set of steep terraces with steps, and it is not a secure, private space: walkers on the coast path pass by the veranda, and one dog-owning guest found people wandering through the patio and leaving the side gate open. Getting in and out of the gravel driveway can mean a three-point turn on the lane, and that same guest felt the house needed some upkeep.
For owners of a single, well-travelled dog who want coast path walks from the door and a comfortable house to come back to, Sea Cliff Cottage is a strong choice, ideally outside the summer beach ban.
