This glamping pod sits in an orchard on a working farm at Whitley Burrow near Longden, about six miles south-west of Shrewsbury, and it is one of the better dog-friendly boltholes in this part of Shropshire. The pod stands on its own with farmland on every side, so there is nothing to negotiate on the way in and out with a dog, and the enclosed orchard gives most dogs room to run off the lead.
The hosts live nearby and answer quickly on WhatsApp, which takes the edge off arriving somewhere remote. Inside, the pod is warm and better appointed than the format suggests, with a kitchenette, a proper shower, a comfortable bed and wi-fi that actually works. The wood-fired hot tub is why most people book, and it takes a couple of hours to come up to temperature, so light it early.
Dogs get a lot out of the setting. There are farm dogs and horses about, which most visiting dogs enjoy and a few will not, and the local walking is good: the New Gate Inn is roughly fifteen minutes on foot, and the folders of local routes left in the pod get used.
