Pet-friendly summary
Snoozy Goose is a pretty cottage in the riverside village of Ovingham, in the Tyne Valley, and it is a natural fit for anyone travelling with a dog. Guests who brought dogs rated it well across the board, earning it a 4.5/5 paw rating, and the reason comes up time and again: the walking.
The cottage looks out over an open green where dogs can stretch their legs, and there are paths through the community orchard and along the River Tyne within a few minutes of the door. Tyne Riverside Country Park is just across the river, giving you a choice of longer walks without needing to drive. The village itself is friendly and quiet, with a welcoming village store and two pubs within walking distance.
Inside, the cottage is spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished, with a little sun trap at the front that guests enjoy sitting in. It is also well placed for exploring Northumberland, with the A69 and the train station easy to reach.
The recurring complaint is the beds. Several guests found the mattresses too soft and lumpy for a good night's sleep, which is the main thing holding the cottage back. Others noted that the hot water for the bath runs out quickly, the sitting room could use another sofa and a lamp, and there is no large mat by the door for muddy paws after a riverside walk, so it is worth bringing an old towel. Heating was not on ahead of arrival for some winter guests.
For dog owners whose priority is great walks straight from the front door in a peaceful village, Snoozy Goose is a lovely base, as long as you can live with a soft mattress.
