How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 4 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 48 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.1/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Snowdrop Stone Cottage is a small nineteenth-century quarryman's cottage on Cavour Street in Talysarn, in the Nantlle Valley on the quieter western edge of Eryri. The location works hard for dog owners: slate-country walks start at the bottom of the street, with paths through the old quarry workings and their ruined stone buildings, the high mountains in one direction and the beaches of the Llyn coast roughly twenty-five minutes in the other. Guests with dogs regularly note there is room enough for a family of four plus the dog, and the parking space directly outside makes coming and going easy.
The welcome sets the tone in reviews: a basket of biscuits, milk and breakfast bits waits on arrival, and the host is repeatedly described as helpful, friendly and only a phone call away. Dogs settle well in the cosy downstairs rooms, and with the log burner lit it makes an appealing off-season bolthole.
Three caveats come up often enough to plan around. The stairs are steep and narrow: fine for an agile dog, harder going for an older one, and plenty of guests mention gripping the bannister themselves. The garden is small and tiered, so this is not a cottage with a big secure lawn, and older or less mobile dogs find the levels awkward. And sheep graze freely around the village lanes, which is charming to wake up to but means leads on from the front door. A handful of reviews also wish the cleaning reached further into the corners, particularly around the log burner, which is worth knowing with a dog that likes to investigate behind things.
Best suited to walkers with lead-steady dogs who want mountains and coast in the same trip and will take characterful and compact over spacious. It sleeps six on paper; reviewers are clear that four is the comfortable limit.
