Caravans, bungalows and lodges are spread out among mature trees with room between them, so it feels calmer than the words holiday park suggest, and a woodland path runs down to a meadow by the river, which means a proper dog walk does not involve getting back in the car.
Dogs are catered for across the park. There are designated dog areas, pet-friendly units in every grade from value to platinum, and the entertainment bar lets dogs in, so an evening out does not mean leaving the dog behind. Off-season the park is genuinely peaceful, and dog owners who come in winter or early spring talk about having the woods and the meadow largely to themselves. Bigger dogs are fine too: the roomier modern caravans with private decking have suited owners travelling with a greyhound.
Booking is where people come unstuck. Choosing a pet-friendly rate does not on its own secure a dog-approved unit, and guests who did not confirm the dog directly have found their accommodation was not marked as dog-friendly, then had to ring the park, switch units and pay extra on arrival - sometimes £25, sometimes a good deal more where it meant moving to a different caravan.
