Swift Bordeaux 73, Ardentinny

Swift Bordeaux 73 is a static caravan on Glenfinart Caravan Park at Ardentinny, on the eastern shore of Loch Long in Argyll. It is let as a whole unit with its own decking, and the park sits between the water and Argyll Forest Park. That is the reason to bring a dog here: forest and river paths lead down to the shore from the site itself, so the first walk of the day starts at the door rather than at the end of a drive.

Guests travelling with a dog single out that walk more than anything inside the caravan. The route through the trees to the beach is the part people come back for, and dogs take to it as readily as their owners. The decking is fully enclosed, which gives you somewhere to let a dog out without immediately reaching for a lead, and the on-site hosts meet guests in person to hand over keys and point out the local routes rather than leaving a lockbox and a leaflet.

Ardentinny itself is a small, quiet village with a shoreline walk and very little traffic. The wider forest park offers far more distance than a weekend needs, and the loch shore stays open and uncrowded outside high summer.

Worth knowing before you book. This is a caravan park, so pitches sit close together and noise from neighbouring units has disturbed guests overnight. If light sleeping is an issue for you or your dog, ask about the quieter parts of the site when you book. The caravan is also compact by the standards of a lodge or a cottage. On the practical side the park makes no charge for a dog and takes one per booking, asks that you say you are bringing one at the time you book, and expects dogs on a lead around the site. Best suited to walkers who want forest and shore on the doorstep and do not need much indoor space.
