How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 19 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 99 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.0/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Terry's Cove is a self-contained studio annexe in a quiet residential close in West Moors, on the Dorset side of the New Forest fringe, and it is set up for one or two people travelling with a dog rather than for a family. It has its own entrance, a kitchen, a shower room and a small decked area to sit out on, with parking on the drive. West Moors Plantation starts a few minutes' walk away, which is the main reason dog owners keep coming back to it.
The welcome is the part guests single out most. Arrivals are met with milk, tea, coffee and biscuits, and dogs get their own treats, a chew or a blanket depending on the season, with the heating often left on so the place is warm on a cold day. The host replies quickly, has flexed check-in and check-out where possible, and is generous with recommendations for dog-friendly pubs, beaches and walking routes. There is an enclosed outdoor area for letting a dog out last thing, which is not something every studio let manages.
On position, the forest is on the doorstep and the coast is roughly half an hour away, with dog-friendly beaches at the far end of that drive and the New Forest a short hop in the other direction. Two nearby pubs are reported as dog-friendly. One thing to note is that some booking listings give the address as St Leonards rather than West Moors, so put the postcode into the satnav rather than the town name.
The caveats are worth reading first. It is one room, with the kitchen at one end and the bed at the other, and at least one party arrived expecting a separate bedroom from the photographs. One guest was asked for ten pounds per dog after booking as a precaution against mess, so raise that when you book rather than on arrival. The bed divides opinion, storage and hanging space are thin, and a couple of stays fell short on cleaning, including dog hair left on the bedding.
Terry's Cove earns 4.5/5 on paw rating, and suits a couple or a solo traveller with one steady dog who want forest walking from the door and are happy in a compact space.
