How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 5 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 25 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.0/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
The Coach House is a roomy, practical Peak District holiday home that works well for big family groups bringing a dog. Guests who have stayed with dogs, including three-generation family parties, praise the space and the location, and it earns a 4.4/5 paw rating.
The ground floor is the highlight. It has hard floors that are easy to clean after muddy walks, and guests have found a mop and bucket on hand for wet days. The kitchen is large enough for the whole party to gather, and there is a big sitting room for evenings in. A walled garden gives the dog a safe place to go out, although it is smaller than some expected, and there is off-street parking for three cars.
Stoney Middleton itself is a good spot for dog owners. There is a dog-friendly pub across the road, with a chip shop and an Indian takeaway within walking distance, and Bakewell and the Dales are close by for longer walks. The owners are described as friendly and supportive.
There are drawbacks worth knowing about. The house sits on a busy main road with narrow pavements, so walking along the road with a dog is not easy and most walks will start with a short drive or careful lead work. Upstairs is a different story from the spacious ground floor: apart from the main bedroom, the rooms are small with low, sloping ceilings, the shared bathroom is cramped, taller guests may need to stoop in the showers, and the floorboards are noisy. Some guests also found the towels on the small side.
For a large family or group of friends who want a well-located Peak District base with easy-clean floors and a pub on the doorstep, The Coach House is a sound choice, as long as you can live with the snug upstairs.
