The Container, Rye

The Container is a converted shipping-container cabin on a smallholding just north of Rye, and it is one of those places where bringing a dog feels like the default rather than the exception. Guests travelling with dogs describe a welcome with real warmth to it, the sort of reception that is not always the norm even at properties that advertise themselves as dog-friendly.

The setting does most of the work. The cabin sits beside a field you are free to walk the dog around, with horses to say hello to, and a decked area with a barbecue and fire pit for the evenings. Dog bowls are left in the cabin. Because it is a standalone cabin rather than a room in a building, there are no shared corridors or neighbouring guests to negotiate, which is why owners of vocal dogs have had such an easy time here: barking that would draw complaints elsewhere has been met with a shrug.

Rye is about a twenty-minute walk away, flat and easy, with a bus stop closer still, so you can eat in town and walk back with the dog rather than driving. The lanes around Rye Foreign and the Rother levels give you plenty of longer routes, and Camber Sands is a short drive if you want a beach walk, though check the seasonal dog restrictions before you go.
