The Little Pines, Falmouth

The Little Pines is a self-contained annexe on Sea View Road in Falmouth, a few minutes' walk from Gyllyngvase beach and about the same again from the town centre. It is a small, well-finished space with its own decking, a wood burner and a sauna, and dogs are part of the deal rather than an afterthought - guests have found dog treats sitting among the welcome extras alongside the shortbread and the logs.

What dog owners consistently pick out is the hosts. Communication is prompt and friendly, the annexe is spotless, and the kitchen is properly stocked down to oil, salt and a pint of milk in the fridge. Because it is a private annexe with its own entrance and outdoor space, there are no corridors or shared areas to manage, which makes arriving late or leaving early with a dog straightforward. Falmouth is a good base for a dog. Gyllyngvase and Swanpool beaches are within walking distance, the coast path runs east toward Pendennis Point and west along the beaches, and the town has a solid run of dog-friendly cafes and pubs. Parking is on the street rather than a dedicated space.

Two things to plan for. The private outdoor space is decking rather than grass, and guests travelling with dogs have flagged that there is nowhere obvious on site for a dog to relieve itself, so a short walk or a pad is worth factoring in. The road can also be audible at night if you are a light sleeper.
