The Little Retreat, Pembrokeshire

The Little Retreat is a cluster of geodesic domes set in the walled gardens of an old castle estate in south Pembrokeshire, and the layout does most of the work for dog owners. Each dome sits in its own fenced garden with a wood-fired hot tub, fire pit and barbecue, so a dog gets private outdoor space that belongs to your booking alone rather than a shared field. Inside there is a log burner, a comfortable bed and separate kitchen and bathroom huts.

The rest of the site suits a dog holiday too: walks straight off the estate, an easy stroll to the village pub and restaurant, crabbing on the estuary, and Barafundle Bay and Manorbier Beach within a short drive. There is a cafe on site doing cooked breakfast, an EV charger, and a farm milk machine within walking distance.

Two things are worth knowing first. An extra charge of around ten pounds for a dog has been reported as a surprise on arrival rather than shown at the time of booking, alongside separate charges for firing the hot tub and for firewood, so ask for the full total before you commit. And the setting is rural rather than silent: church bells ring outside the small hours, there is clay pigeon shooting on nearby land in the evenings, and the fencing between enclosures has had gaps small enough for a determined little dog to find within minutes.

With a 4.6/5 paw rating, The Little Retreat works best for couples and small families with one confident, reasonably robust dog who will enjoy a private garden and a hot tub. Nervous or noise-sensitive dogs may find the bells and the shooting harder work.
