The Lodge@Tyddyn Ucha

The Lodge at Tyddyn Ucha is a small chalet-style lodge in the countryside south of Caernarfon, and its dog-friendliness comes from the people rather than a policy sheet. The owners live in the main house alongside it, keep dogs of their own including a pair of red labradors, and meet arriving guests with a welcome and a tour of the lodge and the area.

For the dog, the practical draw is the enclosed garden, which guests describe as secure and genuinely usable, alongside a spacious shared driveway and quiet surroundings well away from traffic. Inside there is a log burner, comfortable beds and the kit for a self-catering weekend; outside there is a barbecue and the covered private hot tub that most guests rate as the highlight, which earns its keep after a day on the hills.

The property has not published a pet fee, weight limit or breed restrictions, so confirm those with the owners when you book.

Reviews from guests with dogs are consistently warm, and the resident dogs come across as part of the appeal rather than a problem, even when the visiting dog turned out to be the noisier of the two parties. That said, they are the thing to weigh up. If your dog is genuinely reactive around other animals, friendly labradors and free-range chickens next door are worth a conversation with the owners before booking rather than a surprise on arrival. The chickens in particular mean recall matters here.

The setting is rural but not remote: roughly a quarter of an hour's drive from the Snowdon Ranger car park, with Caernarfon, Llanberis and the coast all close by. Two smaller notes. The lodge sits right beside the owners' house, which nobody seems to have found intrusive but is worth knowing if seclusion is the point, and this particular lodge does not have a mountain view.

Best suited to a couple or family whose dog is comfortable around other animals, and who want a warm welcome, a properly enclosed garden and a hot tub at the end of every walking day.
