Worth knowing
- Paw rating is based on 3 reviews - limited sample, treat as directional

How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 3 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 33 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.3/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
The Old Post Office is a converted village post office up at Kingscourt, on the hillside above Stroud, and its position is the reason to bring a dog here: the Cotswold commons start more or less where the lane does.
Rodborough and Selsley Commons are both within easy reach, several hundred acres of open, largely unfenced grassland with long views over the Severn Vale, and they are among the best free-roaming dog walks in Gloucestershire. Cattle graze them through the warmer months, so there are stretches where a lead is the sensible call. Guests staying with dogs consistently rate the walking above everything else about the property.
The house itself is small and quirky, which suits some parties better than others. It is an entire property rather than a room, so there is no shared entrance to negotiate, and there is a small garden at the front that guests describe as well set up. Inside is clean, tastefully done and warmer than the age of the building suggests, with wifi and streaming included.
The honest caveat is the attic bedroom. It was storage in the building's working life and the ceiling is very low. Anyone much over five foot eight will struggle to use it, and the bed in it is a futon. Treat the property as comfortable for two in the main bedroom rather than four across both. Parking is on the street and can take a couple of attempts on a busy evening.
Nothing is published about a pet fee, a weight limit or how many dogs are allowed, so settle that with the owner before you book. Best suited to a couple with one or two dogs who want commons walking on the doorstep and a quiet base ten minutes from Stroud's Saturday market. It earns a 4.4/5 paw rating.
