The Exe Estuary Trail runs close by, there are walks straight from the door, and the village shop, pub, cafe and railway station are all within a few minutes, so travelling in by train with a dog works rather than being a compromise. Parking is a cheap council permit that also covers other East Devon car parks.
It is a quirky, compact property rather than a polished one, and the owner is well regarded for communication before and during a stay. For a dog that is happy with lead walks and long estuary outings, the setting is hard to beat, and the village is genuinely pleasant to be in.
Two things need saying plainly. There is no secure outdoor space: what looks like a patio is the public footpath running past the cottage, so a dog cannot be left out there or let off the lead.
