The Pub, Bristol

The Pub is a self-contained one-bedroom unit on a residential street in Patchway, north Bristol, fitted out as a small private bar - armchairs, a dartboard and pub memorabilia - with its own entrance, free parking outside and a patio at the back. The other side needs weighing carefully before you book. The unit backs directly onto the owners' own garden, and their dog is often out in it. Two separate guests have raised this - one found the dog coming up to the patio doors and barking, another described near-constant barking through the day and night. If your own dog reacts to other dogs, or you were counting on a quiet patio, this is the detail that matters most here. The rear glazing also looks straight into that garden, so the patio is not especially private in either direction.

The location works well for a short stay. The Mall at Cribbs Causeway is walkable, the Filton employment sites are a few minutes by car, and there is green space around the estate for a quick walk before bed. Bristol city centre is a straightforward drive south.

Best suited to a dog owner who wants a private, self-contained base in north Bristol and whose dog is relaxed around another dog barking nearby. Owners of nervous or reactive dogs should look elsewhere in the city. On the pet feedback available so far it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
