- Evidence: 7 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 63 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary
Thorn Cottage is a roomy, comfortable house in one of the best spots in Fishguard for a dog, with coastal walks starting almost at the front door. The Marine Walk to Goodwick is around fifty yards away, a small beach and a path down to Lower Fishguard's harbour are just as close, and guests with dogs describe the cottage as clean, warm and very dog friendly. It earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
The house is set up well for dogs. Floors are hard throughout, which makes muddy paws easy to deal with, and there is a secure, enclosed patio garden at the back that dog owners appreciate for letting dogs out and sitting in the sun. The conservatory and several sitting areas give a group or family plenty of room, and the owner lives next door if anything is needed.
Upper Fishguard, with its pubs, restaurants and shops, is about five minutes' walk away, though it is uphill. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is on hand for longer walks, and street parking is generally easy.
There are a few things to know. The back garden is fully paved with no grass, which some dogs find awkward for toilet breaks, though walks on the doorstep make up for it. The patio wall is roughly waist height with a big drop beyond, so keep an eye on adventurous dogs and children. The bathroom is downstairs, mattresses are only average, and guests have occasionally arrived to a musty or smoky smell, including a lingering doggy smell from previous guests that took a couple of days to fade. Dogs must not be left alone in the cottage, so plan days out accordingly.
For a family or group with dogs who want space, a harbour-side location and coastal walks without getting in the car, Thorn Cottage is a strong choice.
