Pet-friendly summary
Timbertwig Lodge is a genuinely easy place to bring a dog to Pembrokeshire, and it holds a 4.7/5 paw rating from the dog owners who have stayed. The main reason is the small enclosed garden and covered veranda, which almost every dog-owning guest mentions: dogs can be let out safely, and you can sit outside even when it's drizzling. The lodge has wooden floors, which help with muddy paws, and one guest with a very large shepherd breed found the owners relaxed and understanding when their dog dug a hole in the lawn.
The hosts live next door and are described as friendly and on hand without being intrusive, and homemade Welsh cakes left for arriving guests come up again and again. Inside it is roomy and well equipped, with a stocked kitchen and an en-suite main bedroom, and families appreciate the space for kids, dogs and beach kit. The leather sofas are white, so some owners bring throws.
The lodge sits in the countryside near Pembroke, with Broad Haven South, the Bosherston lily ponds and several dog-friendly beaches within about 15 to 20 minutes' drive. It's possible to walk into Pembroke on a car-free day.
A few points are worth knowing. The path to the lodge passes the owners' own front door, which some guests found a little awkward, and one couple found the path long, overgrown and hard to see in the wet or dark, with the wider outdoor space needing attention and dogs needing supervision. Others noted a faint smell of dog in a bedroom, a temperamental boiler and narrow rural lanes that can flood.
For owners of one dog, including big breeds, who want a secure garden and a quiet base for beaches and castles, Timbertwig Lodge is an excellent choice.
