The pet terms are published rather than negotiated at the desk: £25 per pet for the stay, up to two dogs per room, and dogs are named specifically rather than folded into a vague line about pets.

Owners consistently single out the staff rather than the rooms. Guests arriving with a dog describe a team that is helpful about it at check-in and takes the dog in its stride, which is not always the case at this price point.

The walk into Stratford runs straight down Birmingham Road and takes a quarter of an hour, so an evening walk into town and back does not need the car, and the riverside gardens on the far side of the centre make a longer route. There is parking on site, which matters when the alternative in Stratford is a paid town-centre car park.

Two caveats are worth knowing before you book. There is no air conditioning, so on a warm night the window goes open and traffic noise from the road comes in with it. The car park side of the building is markedly quieter and is worth asking for, more so with a dog in the room. Separately, because dogs stay across the hotel rather than in a dedicated wing, barking carries between rooms. Guests without a dog have found that disruptive, and an owner whose dog answers other dogs should factor it in.
