Waterside, Weymouth

Waterside is a comfortable apartment right on Weymouth's old harbour, a short walk from the town centre, the beach and a string of harbourside pubs and restaurants. It welcomes a dog, and its position makes it an easy, low-fuss base for a seaside break with a four-legged companion.

One well-behaved dog is welcome. There is no private garden, but the harbour, the beach around ten minutes away on foot, and Nothe Gardens and Fort, a favourite for early-morning walks, are all close by, so there is plenty of nearby space to exercise a dog.

Guests travelling with dogs consistently praise the location and the comfortable, well-equipped interior, with thoughtful touches such as a complimentary drinks tray and fresh flowers on arrival, and an included parking permit that makes leaving the car easy. One of the bedrooms and a bathroom sit on the same level as the living area, which several guests with limited mobility have found helpful.

The apartment could hardly be more central, a minute to harbourside dining, ten minutes to the beach and a short walk to the town's supermarket, and it works well as a base for exploring the wider Jurassic Coast.

The main recurring point is sound insulation: the flat above is not well isolated, so noise, including dogs running about upstairs in the evening, can carry. There is also a shared alleyway to the front door, which can set some dogs barking, and a couple of guests felt the apartment could do with a deeper clean between stays.

Waterside suits dog owners who want a genuinely central Weymouth harbourside base and are happy in an apartment without a private garden, particularly those who value walking everywhere and are not easily bothered by some noise from neighbouring flats.
