How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 43 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 620 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.4/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Worplesdon Place Hotel is a country pub with rooms on the edge of Guildford, and dogs are part of its everyday life rather than something it tolerates. The bar is busy with local regulars and their dogs most days, and guests who stay overnight with a dog find a bed, bowls and a box of treats waiting in the room, often with poo bags tucked in. Water is on tap from a barrel set aside for dogs, and there are biscuits at the bar.
The rooms to ask for are on the ground floor at the back. Several have patio or French doors opening straight onto the lawn, which owners describe as the easiest possible setup for a late-evening wander or an early start. Upstairs rooms are larger in places, but there is no lift.
Staff come up again and again in what guests with dogs say. They fuss over dogs by name, sort out a missing bed or hamper quickly, and on one occasion waived the dog charge when the welcome box had not appeared. Dogs are allowed in the bar, where breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea are served, but not in the separate restaurant, so dinner with a dog at your feet means eating in the bar.
The grounds are the big draw. A large garden runs down to a pond with ducks, geese and a pair of black swans, with plenty of room for a dog to stretch its legs. For a proper walk, Whitmoor Common is a few minutes away, and owners mention plenty of other good walks nearby. Guildford town centre is about ten minutes' drive, with Woking and the A3 close by.
The drawbacks are mostly about the building. It is old and listed, so there is no air conditioning, which makes some rooms hot in summer, and a few guests found parts tired or the plumbing temperamental. Sunday lunches get crowded and noisy, barking included. The £25 nightly charge catches some owners by surprise, and one regular would like proper dog waste bins in the garden.
For a relaxed night or two near Guildford with one or two dogs, especially in a garden-access room, it is one of the easiest places in Surrey to stay.
