- Evidence: 6 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 13 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.2/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary
Andlestone is a lovingly restored chapel in Birchover, and for dog owners who like to walk it is hard to beat on location. Rowtor Rocks is practically on the doorstep, and Stanton Moor, Robin Hood's Stride and Cratcliffe Rocks are all within easy reach on foot, so there is no need to get in the car for a good morning walk. It holds a 4.5/5 paw rating.
One dog is allowed per booking. Guests who have brought one, from a lively young dog to an elderly one, say there is plenty of room inside for a dog to find a quiet corner while a busy family gets on with games around the big dining table. The house is consistently described as clean, bright and comfortable, and the owners leave a welcome of wine and cake along with suggestions for local walks.
The village has two pubs, and Bakewell and Matlock are around ten minutes away by car. There is also a small park up the road with a play area for children.
The main drawback for dog owners comes up again and again: there is no garden. Guests travelling with a dog, including one with an assistance dog, wished there had been somewhere outside to let it out, and in hot weather the house and the lack of outdoor space made things harder for the dog. Parking is also limited, so a party with more than one car may end up parking down the road. The layout puts the living space upstairs, and footsteps can be heard in the bedrooms below.
For a couple or family with one dog who plan to spend their days out on the Peak District hills, Andlestone is a characterful and comfortable base. Anyone who needs a garden for the dog should look elsewhere.
