Bridge Hideaway is a small cottage tucked just off the main road in Llangollen, a couple of hundred yards from the town, the canal and the heritage railway station, and it makes a comfortable base for a dog-owning couple who want to walk everywhere. The canal towpath is the obvious draw: level, long and immediately on the doorstep.
Dogs are properly welcome rather than tolerated. There is a treat jar in for arriving dogs alongside the coffee-station touches for their owners, and the cottage is compact, warm and easy to settle an animal into, with a wood burner and a layout that suits two people and a dog. A parking permit comes with the booking, which lets you leave the car in any town car park and walk back - useful, because the spaces immediately outside can be taken.
Two things to weigh. There is no enclosed outdoor space, so there is nowhere for a dog to sit out with you, and owners have asked for some form of enclosure more than once. And the short walk into town runs along a narrow pavement beside a busy road: fine for a steady dog on a lead, awkward with two dogs or a dog buggy, and worth knowing if yours is excitable or reactive to traffic. It is only a few hundred yards, but they are not relaxed ones.
