How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 38 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Trefin is a small village on the north Pembrokeshire coast, and this upside-down cottage sits a few hundred yards from the Coast Path with the shoreline just across the road. For a dog holiday that is most of the appeal in a sentence: the walking starts at the door, and the stretch east towards the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy makes an easy morning out.
Up to two dogs are welcome. The owners leave a provisions basket for arrivals, with local bread, farm milk, butter, tea and a Bara Brith among the things guests mention, and the standard of fit-out is a step above most self-catering of this size, with a properly equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and good linen. The living space is on the upper floor, where window seats make the most of the view. Mobile signal and broadband are both strong, which is not a given in this part of Pembrokeshire.
Dog owners rate it highly. Those travelling with dogs describe the beach access as feeling almost private, and between the coast path and the local pubs a dog can be out most of the day. It earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
Two things are worth knowing before booking. The cottage fronts directly onto the road, and although this is rural Pembrokeshire the traffic is more constant than the setting suggests, with a regular bus service, farm vehicles and passing cars. Guests have described that as a loss of tranquillity rather than a hazard, but for anyone whose dog is inclined to bolt through an open door it is a more serious consideration, and there is no enclosed garden to fall back on. Parking is also tighter than it first appears: a single pull-in for one car on a bend, and the garage referred to in the listing is not available to guests.
Best suited to a couple or small family with one or two settled, road-sensible dogs who want coast path walking straight from the door and are happy to keep the lead on until they reach the beach.
