- Wider context: The property has 49 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.5/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary
Gardener's Cottage is a small period cottage tucked into Devon Square in the middle of Kingsbridge, a couple of minutes' walk from the quay, and it works well as a base for a couple travelling with one dog. Dogs are welcome, and guests who have brought one describe the arrangement as straightforward rather than grudging - the sort of place where the dog is simply part of the booking.
Its strengths for a dog owner are location and practicality. Kingsbridge sits at the head of a tidal estuary in the South Hams, so the walk along the quay and out towards the estuary path starts a few steps from the door, with plenty more within a short drive: the South West Coast Path, Bantham and the Slapton stretch are all close, though it is worth checking seasonal dog restrictions on the South Hams beaches before you set off in summer. Off-road parking comes with the cottage, which is worth more than it sounds in a town where the streets are tight, and the cottage itself is consistently reported as clean and well stocked, with a large walk-in shower that earns its keep after a beach day.
The caveats are about size, and the property is explicit about it: small dogs only. This is a one-bedroom cottage sleeping two, the enclosed space at the back is smaller than the photographs suggest, and the staircase is steep and narrow, so a large or elderly dog that struggles with stairs is not the right fit here. There is a charge of £15 per week for the dog, and the stay has to be arranged with the owners in advance rather than simply booked.
Best suited to a couple with a small dog who want to walk into a proper Devon town for dinner, park the car once and leave it there.
