How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 45 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Hafod Wen is a one-bedroom studio annexe in the countryside just outside Pentraeth, with the owners living next door and Anglesey's beaches a short drive in most directions. It is immaculately kept and better equipped than its size suggests: log burner, underfloor heating, a powerful shower, and enough soundproofing that guests report hearing nothing from the main house. The garden is its own, fully enclosed and a sun trap, with parking right outside the gate. Up to two pets can stay.
The owners put real thought into the dog side of it. A welcome basket arrives with treats for the dog alongside cake and wine for everyone else, and they hand out dog ID tags printed with the holiday address, which is the sort of small, practical idea guests remember and mention. They are next door if you need them and invisible if you do not.
There is one restriction to know about before booking, because it has caught people out: dogs are not allowed in the bedroom. Most guests take this in their stride and report their dog settling perfectly well on its own bed outside the door, but one felt strongly it should be flagged more clearly up front, and another marked the property down over the restricted areas. If your dog sleeps on or beside your bed at home, this is the detail that decides whether the studio works for you.
The other planning point is walks. There are no footpaths suitable for dog walking directly from the property, so every outing starts in the car. That is a small price on Anglesey: Red Wharf Bay and the beach at Pentraeth are minutes away and take dogs, and Newborough Forest, Ynys Llanddwyn, Moelfre and the coast around South Stack are all within easy reach. Two dog-friendly pubs, a shop and a garage sit close by in the village.
Being a studio, it suits a couple with one or two settled dogs rather than a family or a pack. On that basis it is one of the best-kept dog-friendly boltholes on the island, and its 4.9 out of 5 paw rating is well earned.
