Isfryn, Pentraeth

Isfryn looks out over Red Wharf Bay from a quiet spot above Pentraeth, on the eastern side of Anglesey, and the walking is what dog owners come for. Pentraeth Beach is roughly ten minutes downhill on foot, Pentraeth Woods are close by for shade, and the coastal path runs past the property, so most days can start without getting in the car. Guests with dogs describe the setting as genuinely remote and peaceful, with a raised decking area and garden that catch the sun and take in the whole bay.

The house itself is large, modern and warm, and dog-owning guests tend to be repeat visitors. The village pub is an easy walk and takes dogs, which several parties mentioned as making the evenings straightforward. A number of guests have brought two dogs alongside children or older relatives and found the layout absorbed everyone comfortably.

The one thing to weigh carefully is containment. The garden is described as secure by some guests, but others travelling with dogs are explicit that it is not escape-proof: there is a sizeable gap beneath the gate where it sits on the slope, and more than one party warned that a determined or adventurous dog could get out without much difficulty. Owners of dogs that stay close reported no problems at all. If a dog roams, this is not the place for it.

A few other practical notes. The approach is a single-track lane onto a farm track and is in poor repair, with several guests reporting low cars bottoming out. Guests have found the vacuum cleaner inadequate for clearing up after dogs, and dog hair and a lingering doggy smell left by previous parties have both been reported by later visitors, so cleanliness on changeover is the weak point here rather than the house itself. The booking listing specifies one well-behaved dog, and at least one guest has referred to a per-pet charge, so confirm both the number of dogs and any additional cost directly before booking.

Best suited to owners of steady, recall-reliable dogs who want sea views, coastal walks from the door and real quiet, and who can accept a rough approach road.
