Pet-friendly summary

Journeyman Loft is a small self-catering cottage tucked just off Skipton's town centre, let as a whole property and taking one well-behaved dog. It works well as a base in a town that is genuinely dog-friendly, and it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating, but it comes with a couple of practical limits worth reading before you book.

The position and the welcome are the strong parts. You are a few minutes on foot from the high street, so guests routinely leave the car parked for most of the week, and Skipton takes dogs in a good share of its cafes, pubs and shops. Walks start close by, with the canal towpath running through the town and the reservoir circuit at Embsay a short drive away for something longer. Dog bowls are put out for arriving guests, the owner is described as friendly and quick to help, and the cottage inside is warm, spotlessly clean and better equipped than its size suggests.

The limits are real, though. There is no enclosed outdoor space, so there is nowhere to let a dog out last thing at night or first thing in the morning without a proper walk, and guests travelling with dogs have raised this directly. Reaching the property by car is awkward too: the approach is a narrow lane that looks too tight to drive, followed by a steep pitch and a flight of steps, which is hard work with luggage and not ideal for an older dog.

Guests have also reported a musty, damp smell strong enough that clothes and a dog bed needed washing at home afterwards, late-night weekend noise carrying from a venue behind the property, a bedroom door that does not close properly, and unreliable wi-fi.

Best suited to a couple with one adaptable dog who want to walk into Skipton rather than drive, will happily take a proper walk before bed, and can manage a tight approach and steps on arrival.
