Orme Rise Apartment 4 is a first-floor flat on Upper Mostyn Street, in the middle of Llandudno and a few minutes' walk from the promenade and the pier. What guests with pets notice first is that the welcome extends to the animal: alongside the milk, tea, coffee and Welsh cakes left out for arrivals, dogs get their own treats, and more than one party has mentioned the small touches put out for them specifically.

The flat is at the smarter end of what Llandudno self-catering usually offers, spotless and well furnished with a properly equipped kitchen, and the hosts are quick to answer. It is not only dogs that are accepted either: at least one party has brought a cat and found it welcome, which is unusual enough to be worth knowing if you travel with one.

The location does most of the work for a pet holiday. The seafront, the beach and the pier are all walkable, the Great Orme rises at the end of the bay for a longer climb, and free on-street parking in the side streets means you can leave the car and walk for the week.

Two caveats matter more with an animal in tow than without. There is a nightclub across the road, and guests have reported significant noise into the early hours. A couple sleeping in the back bedroom were untroubled, but a dog bedded down in the lounge would be closer to it. The flat is up a flight of stairs with no lift, which is fine for most dogs but awkward with luggage, and the wifi does not reach the back bedroom. There is one proper bedroom, with sofa beds in the lounge making up the rest of the sleeping space.
