  • Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.

Pet-friendly summary

The Penthouse at Ty Gwyn is a two-floor apartment on Mostyn Street, right in the middle of Llandudno and a couple of minutes from the promenade and the pier. It is one of a small set of apartments in the same building, and it comes with its own off-road parking space, which in Llandudno in season is worth more than it sounds when you arrive with a dog and a boot full of kit.

Dogs are welcome, and it is a straightforward welcome rather than a formal package. The owner meets guests, answers messages quickly and is repeatedly named as the reason people rebook. A pet charge is not stated on the property's booking listing, so confirm the current pet terms before you travel.

The apartment is modern, spotless and well equipped, with a kitchen you can properly cook in and a comfortable sofa and bed. The upper level gives it both its name and its views over the town rooftops.

Everything Llandudno has is on the doorstep. The North Shore beach and the pier are a short walk and the quieter West Shore is a few minutes the other way, though seasonal dog restrictions apply on parts of the main beach in summer, so check the signage before letting a lead off. The Great Orme headland is a long and satisfying walk in its own right, and the pubs and cafes along Mostyn Street are used to dogs coming in.

The one real caveat is the stairs, and it is a pet caveat. The climb up to the apartment is steep, and the internal staircase between the two floors is steeper still, arriving right at the foot of the bed. Guests with older or less agile dogs say plainly that this is not the property for them, and owners of dogs that move around at night have improvised barriers at the top of the stairs; a travel stair gate is the obvious thing to bring. The parking bay is tight, and there is not much storage on the lower floor.

It suits able-bodied owners with a confident, agile dog who want to be in the centre of Llandudno with parking sorted and the beach a few minutes away.
