Pet-friendly summary
Stable Cottage is a small stone holiday cottage on the moor road between Whitby and Scarborough, in the parish of Fylingdales, and it is the sort of place people book specifically because the dog is coming. It suits two people plus a dog, there is a pub across the road, and both the North York Moors and a run of the best dog beaches in England are a short drive away.
The cottage takes one dog per booking. The cottage is set up for a dog holiday in the ways that actually matter: it is warm and dry when the weather off the North Sea is not, with underfloor heating, a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, and a layout that puts the bathroom next to the bedroom, so getting up in the night does not disturb a dog settled in the lounge. Owners describe the place as spotless on arrival, with a welcome pack, and the owners as friendly and easy to deal with.
The location is the strong suit. This stretch of coast has some of the best beach walking in the country, and guests routinely report their dogs getting long runs on the sand, with Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough all easily reachable and the moors immediately behind.
Two practical caveats come up repeatedly. The garden is not enclosed, so there is nowhere to simply open the back door and let a dog out unsupervised, and that is the single most common thing guests would change. The underfloor heating also runs noticeably hotter in some parts of the floor than in others, which matters if a dog is crated overnight or sleeps on the floor, so it is worth feeling the floor before deciding where the bed goes.
At 4.6/5, Stable Cottage is a strong choice for one dog and two people who plan to spend their days out on the coast and the moors, and a poorer one for anyone who needs a secure garden.
