How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 4 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 17 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Stock Barn is a barn conversion in the middle of Youlgreave, one of the quieter villages in the White Peak, and it is set up for dogs with more thought than most self-catering properties manage. Dog biscuits and blankets are put out for arriving guests, and the barn opens more or less straight onto the network of paths running down into Bradford Dale.
No pet fee or written policy is published, so check numbers when you book. In practice the welcome is warm: guests travelling with dogs mention the small provisions laid on for them and the fact that nothing about the place feels off limits. The finish is high throughout, with good furnishings and a full-height window in the living space looking out over the valley, and the hosts are described as quick to respond to anything that came up.
Youlgreave itself is the other selling point. It has three pubs, a shop, and the river walks along the Bradford and Lathkill valleys within a couple of minutes on foot, while Bakewell, Haddon Hall and the wider Peak District are a short drive. For a dog that wants a proper walk before breakfast, it is hard to beat.
One caveat deserves to be taken seriously. The staircase is open, with gaps between the treads, and guests travelling with small dogs raise it repeatedly: dogs that refuse the stairs altogether, and improvised barriers rigged at the top rather than risk a fall. No stair gate is provided, so if your dog is small, elderly or unsure on open steps, bring one. Parking is also tight for a larger car.
For owners of a sure-footed dog who want a good-looking Peak District base with walking from the doorstep, Stock Barn earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
