How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 14 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 190 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
The Potting Shed is a cosy countryside cabin outside Carmarthen that dog owners return to again and again, and the reason is the garden. The cabin opens straight onto a large, private, enclosed garden through patio doors, so dogs can be let out for a run without a lead, and guests also get the use of a couple of paddocks for longer play. It earns a 4.8/5 paw rating from guests who brought their dogs, and it is easy to see why.
Only one of the two cabins takes dogs. The Potting Shed is the dog-friendly one, at £7 per dog per night; its neighbour, The Garden Shed, does not accept dogs, so make sure you book the right cabin.
The welcome is a big part of the appeal. Guests mention Welsh cakes for the humans and treats or biscuits for the dog on arrival, a well-stocked kitchen with a dishwasher and freezer, good towels and a very comfortable bed. The owners live on site and are described as helpful without hovering, and their friendly golden retriever, Frank, often wanders over to say hello. That is a delight for most visiting dogs, but worth knowing about if yours is nervous around other dogs.
The setting is rural and quiet, off a lane with farmland all around. That suits a restful break, but it does mean there is little in the way of walks from the door beyond the grounds themselves, and the shops are around ten minutes away by car, with beaches roughly half an hour's drive. The lanes are narrow, which can be awkward in a larger vehicle.
A few points come up in otherwise glowing feedback. Some of the fencing around the fields is old and worn, so keep an eye on a dog that likes to test boundaries. There has also been a report of a noticeable pet odour in the lounge on arrival, and the heating is controlled remotely, so ask the hosts if it runs too warm.
For a couple with one or two dogs who want a quiet countryside bolt-hole with a properly enclosed garden, The Potting Shed is hard to beat.
