Beyond the dog side, this is simply a well-run small hotel: the kitchen earns consistent praise, enough that many guests eat in on every night of a stay, arrivals are met with tea and bara brith, and the hosts are attentive without hovering. It works as a two or three night retreat and as a comfortable staging post on the way to the Fishguard ferry.

A few caveats are fair. The resident retriever is a highlight for most guests but is worth knowing about if your own dog is reactive or unsettled by other dogs, and he can be noisy outside. Parking is on loose gravel, which is only really awkward on two wheels. The hotel fronts a road and the grounds are smaller than the photographs suggest, so this is not a property with acres to roam. Some guests have felt the rate sits at the higher end, though most judged the food and the setting worth it.
