A signposted path across the fields and behind the church puts you in Hawkshead village in about ten minutes on foot, and the woods and fells around Esthwaite Water open up straight from the door.
It is a whole-property let with its own outside space, which guests with dogs describe as secure, and a reserved parking space immediately outside - a small thing that matters when you are unloading a wet dog and a week's shopping. Owners regularly report walking every day without touching the car, and the cottage has taken a pair of dogs comfortably as well as one.
