Breakfasts come in for unanimous praise - cooked options that genuinely impress, served in a setting that feels more like a country home than a hotel.

The Ambleside location is a strong fit for dog walkers: easy access to the central Lakes (Tarn Hows, Loughrigg Fell, the Coniston shore walk are all 10-15 minutes by car), and pubs/cafes/a chippy within walking distance for evening meals after a day on the fells. One practical caveat: the building is Victorian, so think solid wood floors, period staircases, and traditional rooms rather than modern step-free access.
